In His Image has seen a high success rate in leading clients to success in many areas of life, using the Word of God.

Effective Christian Counseling is a therapeutic relationship between counselor and client, with the purpose of leading the client closer to God’s best for their lives. The counselor is a vessel of God’s grace and love, and equipped to help the client learn successful ways to overcome their present situation and past hurts.

Individual Counseling

At In His Image Counseling, we seek to help each client find wholeness as described in Romans 15:13, which says “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  We take a  whole person approach, addressing the body, soul and spirit.

There are many emotional issues that find a corner in our heart, and refuse to die down. With time, these issues can transform into a sort of emotional tumor that impacts negatively on our daily life, such as lack of concentration, enthusiasm, self respect, will to change, encouragement, and so on. These issues can spiral into our lives in various ways and can create problems in our relationships with each other and with God, our professional life, and health. We’ll work together to address the root cause of the problem.

We first use the word of God as the basis for all truth and transformation. Then, we use the Arno Profile System, revealing your individual God-given Temperament. This gives insight into any unmet needs in your life, and practical steps in getting those temperament needs met in ways that bring you joy and peace, and bring God honor as you step out in all He created you to be!  Finally, we work to seek balance through emotional healing and inner transformation, as well look at nutritional needs that may be causing imbalance in emotions.

Marriage & Family Counseling

Marriage is a blessing from God and a place where we all become better. A couple goes through numerous phases in life together. Some parts are amazing and full of building great memories! Others can be rough, and some can be very traumatic. The strength of a relationship is reflected in how well the couple “connects” through the hard times and the good times. What is your number one goal for your marriage? If it is anything except “connecting” with the heart of your spouse, then you may find your marriage full of strife and offense. and your goals and prayers being hindered. God’s answer to this is His perfect love that drives out all fear, and restores trust and connection in a marriage.

In counseling, through the use of the Word of God and learning each other’s God-given temperament, spouses will come to understand one anothers deepest needs, strengths and how to work through their weaknesses together. Our approach in marriage therapy is oriented towards empowering spouses to love and acccept themselves, and their spouse, allowing for a greater ability to connect with each other’s heart. From there each spouse will be able to trust again, and apply new communication tools, greater emotional control when dealing with hard times, and begin to have forward thinking in which they can work together to resolve disagreements and turn them into agreements.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is effective because it is a means of grace that God has promised—where two or more are gathered in His name, there He is among them (Matthew 18:20).  When we understand one another in real Christian fellowship, the Lord inclines His ear to us and is pleased.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down upon the beard, upon the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore.” – Psalm 133:1-3

In Christ-Centered group counseling the purpose is to bring biblical healing for spiritual, psychological and relational problems.  It is also to teach and encourage spiritual and personal growth in the life of the participants.  The therapy group becomes a Christian community where healing takes place, support is available and Christ is experienced in the healing and recovery process of group members.  Not only do participants receive tremendous understanding, support, and encouragement from others facing similar issues, but they also gain different perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints on those issues.  The counselor leading the group brings years of counseling expertise in leading clients to freedom and peace.  The counselor will also provide group rules that bring safety for all participants. Group therapy is widely used and has proven to be an effective way to receive counseling.

Group therapy is economical because the payment for the sessions is shared and divided among the participants.  The sessions are usually more affordable by splitting the fee among group members.

Here are just a few group therapy topics we offer:

– Marriage Support
– Co-dependency
– Grief
– Anger management

Additionally, this method of counseling is highly effective for marriages as well, as several couples can split the cost, allowing each couple the opportunity for growth at an affordable rate.

Life Coaching

Life coaching helps individuals and couples identify strengths to build on and weaknesses to overcome in reaching specific goals.  As we move forward, we often find areas of life in which we have become “stuck”

and unable to move forward.  With our coach you will complete one of the most accurate Christ-Centered temperament analysis available, which we will use to help you identify your greatest strengths, and find ways to transform your weaknesses into strengths.

In this journey, we will also identify your unmet needs that may be holding you back in meeting your goals.  Together, we will explore godly and productive ways to meet those needs and empower you to move forward.

Counseling for Teenagers

Youth counseling provides an opportunity to work one-on-one with a counselor to recover from an upsetting experience, explore thoughts and feelings, or for guidance and support when dealing with a difficult issue. Teenagers today are faced with morals and attitudes that are far from the Christian Values they were raised in at home. Thankfully, God promises you and them that He will not allow more to come on you all than what you can handle. This means there is hope, hope in HIm and those He has trained to walk your teen into a new found hope and peace.

We are here for your teenager, to empower them and help them resolve any emotional issues that may have found a corner in their heart, and is impacting them negatively in their daily life. Many teen issues such as lack of concentration, enthusiasm, self respect, will to change, forward thinking and anger issues are rooted in unresolved pains and traumas of the past. There is no reason to take the effects of those into their adult life when God has provided us freedom from our past, on the cross. Our Christian Counselor, Lisa Winchell, is trained in leading your teen to freedom in Christ and back to hope and peace.

We address the body, soul, and spirit in our counseling. Often uncontrollable anger has a root in the nutritional state of the body. We use the Amen Checklist and many other tools to help you and your teen identify if it would be beneficial to further look into the nutritional state of their bodies to gain greater emotional control. We make Dr. referrals for those who need that.

Grief & Trauma Therapy

God says that He is near to the broken hearted.  He promises His presence in times of trouble and pain. But often we can’t feel that presence when grief has set in or trauma fears are lodged into our hearts.

The compassion of a Christian counselor and expertise in trauma relief and grief processing can help you move along in the healing process without getting stuck or buried by new fears coming from those traumas.  The greatest gift you will find in our office is a greater ability to feel God’s presence in the process, as He walks you through it.

The Word says, “oh that I would awake to be satisfied with seeing your likeness”.  There is a place in His presence that brings great peace, as well as wisdom and practical steps in moving through and out of grief.  We are here to walk with you.

Anxiety & Depression

In God’s presence is peace and joy! But many Christians are not experiencing that peace and joy. First lets understand some things about depression and anxiety. Depression is a mental illness, which one should not confuse with the short-term emotional distress, or feeling low, which also are constituents of depression, Anyone can feel low for a brief period of time, or sad once in a while, and it is advised to seek out help at those times as well if you feel you are not moving past it quickly enough. Depression is much more serious and is marked by, a persistent feeling of sadness, loneliness, grief, apathy, and emotional pain. It this describes you, it is important to seek help right away. Especially if suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming oneself have started. God promises that when you seek out godly counsel and apply that counsel, you will be blessed. He is calling you to “ask” for help, and we are hear for you to seek His leading in bringing you hope and healing. If you feel suicidal right now, please call 911, and then you can call us from the hospital to be there for you when you get out.

Fear and anxiety disorders are, unfortunately, very prevalent in our society and the body of Christ, as well. Fear is the opposite of God’s perfect love, and is our enemy’s number one tool against us. You may have experienced pastors and friends who quote scriptures to you like, “Cast all your cares on the Lord”, “He has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind”, and “He delivered me from all my fears”. These are great promises from God, but they can bring great frustration to those dealing with anxiety disorders rooted in trauma, chemistry, or spiritual bondage. God does have the answer though, in His Word and His wisdom. At In His Image, we have sought God for years to find the best models of healing, available to Pastoral Counselors, for our clients in these areas and have been successful in leading many clients to hope, healing, and freedom!

Christian Counseling has proven to lead so many to a place of victory, joy and a new zeal for life and God! Our approach, at In His Image Counseling, is a whole person approach, addressing body, soul, and spirit issues. When all 3 areas are considered in the therapeutic process, a proper and successful protocol can be developed. Then when the client applies and walks out that protocol, it works! More than that, the joy and peace return, and we are reminded of scriptures like, “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Temperament Therapy

How did God make me?

Do you struggle with understanding why you react in certain ways in different situations?

Do you wish you were more like someone else and question God about why He made you this way?

It is important to understand the connection between your identity and your fruitfulness in life!

As you understand your temperament

strengths and weaknesses, it will help you immensely in every area of your life:

  • how you interact with people
  • how to make better decisions
  • what types of employment are you best suited for
  • how to communicate more effectively
  • learn how to deal with your anger
  • stronger relationship with God and others

You will be able to use your strengths to bless others and cooperate with the Holy Spirit to transform your weaknesses.

It’s especially powerful in couples, family and marriage counseling situations because it gives each person the opportunity to better understand their partner’s needs, desires and behaviors. Needs must be met in godly ways or sinful behaviors will typically result. How can you meet someone’s needs (or your own) unless you know what they are?

The methodology we use identifies three separate human interactions and identifies each one in two different ways. You complete a short questionnaire, we generate the report and then go over it with you.

You’ll get answers to questions like these:
Areas of social interaction

“Am I a loner or a social butterfly.. or somewhere in between?
“Is the need I show, the need that I really have?”
“What are the strengths and weakness of this need?”

Responsibilities, control, or needing someone else to be in control

“Am I independent, dependent or somewhere in between?
“Is the need I show, the need that I really have?”
“What are in the strengths and weaknesses of this need?”

Interactions in deep relationships

“How much affection do I need from my close personal relationships?
“Is the need I show, the need that I really have?”
“What are in the strengths and weaknesses of this need?”

There are five temperament types and you could be different in each of the three aforementioned areas. This is how you were fearfully and wonderfully made!

How do I know if I need counseling?

People with a wide range of issues or concerns may benefit from counseling.  Feeling depressed or anxious, being indecisive, having fears of failure, dealing with identity questions – these are some common reasons why people come to see a counselor.  Clients also come with issues concerning relationships with friends, dating partners, and family.  Some people call on counselors for help navigating developmental stages, such as starting college, or having a child.  Some seek counseling in a state of crisis, when they feel overwhelmed and unable to cope.

There can be many other issues, unique to the individual, for which a person might seek counseling.  If you are troubled by something and want to talk about it, no problem is “too small” to deserve care and attention.  Some clients come for a few sessions with a counselor, others come for longer periods of time.  This decision is made by the client and counselor together, depending on the needs of the client.  In general, it’s a good idea to consider seeing a counselor if your difficulties persist for an extended period of time, and/or if you experience symptoms that interfere with your daily activities.
